Berge Kenya joined the Berge Bulk fleet on 15 January 2020 at 0928 hours (local Singapore time). The 210,000 DWT bulk carrier was built at the Bohai Shipyard in China and sails under the flag of Isle of Man. While Berge Kenya has not been fixed on a contract, she is set to sail out of the yard and is headed straight for bunkering.
The vessel is named after Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. Before glaciation, the mountain was 7,000 metres high and covered by an ice cap for thousands of years. This resulted in very eroded slopes and numerous valleys radiating from the center.
