Many of our vessels sail with mixed-nationality crews, comprising Filipinos, Chinese, Indians, and Europeans, and we take proactive measures to promote a culture of inclusion and harmony amongst them.

What made you choose a career at sea, knowing it’s still a male-dominated industry?
Before joining shipping, I knew the journey wouldn’t be easy, especially as a woman. Despite facing people who believed women should stay at home, I pursued my own dreams. I sail not just for myself but also to support my family. Along the way, I discovered I truly enjoyed the field and progressed step-by-step to where I am today. I once dreamed of becoming a policewoman, but marine engineering is the path for me.
Nearly ten years at sea later, I’m still eager to learn, gain new experiences, and work with people of different nationalities.
What skills do you think are essential for your success?
If there’s one thing, I would say to anyone who wants to succeed, it’s don’t ever stop learning.
What does it mean to you to be among the first female officers sailing with Berge Bulk?
I feel incredibly proud of myself. Being told that we are pioneers made me think “Wow, I feel great!”.
What advice would you give to someone — male or female — thinking about a career at sea?
Be yourself, be respectful to others, and if seafaring is what you want to do — go for it.

Adaptability is key. This industry is always changing and, if you want a long-lasting career, you need to be willing to learn, adjust, and grow along the way.
What does an inclusive workplace look like to you?
For me, an inclusive workplace is one where open communication thrives. When communication is open, collaboration becomes easier, trust is built, and people feel truly included in the team.
What helps you feel respected and supported in a team?
I feel respected and supported when I feel heard.
