Philanthropy

Established in 2009 as a sister organisation to Berge Bulk, the Marshall Foundation aims to support innovative projects that tackle social and environmental problems in parts of the world that are important to the work and success of Berge Bulk.

These organisations, often led by social entrepreneurs, are chosen based on their relevance in addressing global concerns that we are passionate about.

The Marshall Foundation logo

Since it was founded, the Marshall Foundation has provided USD $17.2 million to 71 organisations in 31 countries.

Our Approach

The Marshall Foundation typically tries to assist smaller organisations to develop and pilot new initiatives to help them increase the scale and reach of their impact – providing risk funding that they would otherwise find difficult to raise. The Foundation then continues to support those organisations as they expand proven new initiatives.

We believe in continuing to support projects where our funding can make a difference. The Marshall Foundation has been a long-term funder of several outstanding NGOs and feels privileged to work with organisations that are doing such incredible work.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The Marshall Foundation funds projects all over the world.

The mission is to support organisations that wish to trial new interventions — schemes or proposals that can potentially be scaled up to have significant impact. Since being founded in 2009, the Foundation has provided more than USD $17,200,000 to 71 organisations in 31 countries on five continents — with 79% of the investment in Asia and Africa (56% and 22%, respectively). 25% of the funds have been invested in India, 11% in Cambodia and 10% in the Philippines.
