Berge Bulk is invested in people — we have a strong focus on providing opportunities for all our employees to continually develop their skills. Through our philanthropic support, this focus on people extends well beyond those who work for us.
The Marshall Foundation is proud to support people in other communities by helping to provide programmes and training that can greatly improve life opportunities. Enhancing skills — with projects that inspire through sports and education, some focusing on safety and sustainability, and others in science and technology — a wide range of vital work is supported.
Through our philanthropic partnership in India, we are also able to engage with our employees and their families — linking our fundraising and volunteering events to raise awareness and bring people together.
Oscar Foundation
Dedicated to empowering children and youth in low-income communities in India, OSCAR uses football as a tool to deliver education and life skills sessions — enabling young people to become role models in their communities. Since being founded in 2010, more than 35,000 children and young people from low-income communities have joined OSCAR’s Football, Education, and Young Leaders’ programmes.
The Marshall Foundation has been helping OSCAR to provide football and life skills training to children in Mumbai and Karnataka since 2021. In 2025, 339 children and young people attended regular football and education sessions.
On 26 January 2025, eight Berge Bulk employees and their families joined 800 children at the Cooperage Football Grounds in Mumbai for OSCAR’s 14th Annual Football Day. This event is a key part of our partnership with the OSCAR Foundation, which has flourished over six years. We also proudly support OSCAR through donations from our annual Live Well + Give Well campaign, and volunteering events with our Indian seafarers and Families Ashore. We are proud to stand alongside OSCAR on this journey and look forward to supporting their efforts to empower young people through football and education.

Children of the Mekong
(Enfants du Mekong)
Enfants du Mekong (EdM) is a French charity which has worked since 1958 to educate the poorest children in Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, EdM organises child sponsorships to allow children to go to school, and runs programmes to support early childhood development and access to education, particularly to isolated populations and in rural areas.
The Marshall Foundation has been funding EdM’s higher education support centre in Tuguegarao, Philippines, since 2013. The centre supports underprivileged teenagers who have shown that they would benefit from continuing their education. The support helps these young people to attend colleges and universities, with accommodation provided in a supervised community with other students. In 2025, the centre supported 39 students throughout the year.

Young Power in Social Action
Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) is a social development organisation in Bangladesh dedicated to promoting safety and sustainability within the ship recycling sector, while safeguarding the rights of vulnerable coastal communities. As the industry undergoes a significant transformation toward global standards, the Marshall Foundation is proud to support YPSA in its mission to champion this vital transition.
Our partnership focuses on empowering the local workforce by enhancing technical expertise and safety protocols. By supporting specialised train-the-trainer programmes, we enable workers to master the safe handling of asbestos and implement modern three-stage cutting practices. These initiatives, which include the formation of dedicated emergency response teams, are designed to foster “green yard” development. Through this collaboration, we are helping to safeguard livelihoods while positioning Bangladesh as an emerging global leader in safe and environmentally sound ship recycling.

1851 Trust
The 1851 Trust is a UK charity set up in 2014 by Olympic gold-medal-winning sailor Sir Ben Ainslie. The Trust uses sport inspired learning to educate and empower young people through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and climate education. The charity’s STEM Crew education programme fosters knowledge and skills through the provision of free digital resources for 8–16 year-olds, illustrating connections between sport, STEM and our everyday lives.
The Marshall Foundation supported the 1851 Trust in 2025 to create educational resources related to the use of new fuels in shipping, and to make a careers film to highlight STEM based career opportunities in the maritime sector.
