Client partners with us to offset their voyage

Working with like-minded partners.

Berge Bulk and Emporos have worked together to achieve a carbon offset voyage – transporting 29,095 tonnes of corn gluten meal from Darrow, Louisiana, USA to Puerto Montt, Chile.

The cargo was carried by Berge Bulk’s 37,687 DWT handy-size vessel, the Berge Scafell Pike, and the voyage, consumed 577 tonnes of fuel, resulting in 1,800 tonnes of carbon emissions.

To offset the environmental impact of the voyage, Berge Bulk and Emporos utilised carbon credits from the Cordillera Azul REDD+ Project, a forest protection project in Peru.

The project protects 1,351,964 hectares of central Peru’s lowland and mountain forests against deforestation — the area is home to more than 6,000 different species of plants and 1,000 different species of animals.

Credits purchased on the Climate Impact X (CIX) Marketplace, were retired to offset the voyage emissions.

Carbon Offset Deliveries

Our Carbon Offset Delivery programme offers customers a simple and effective way to offset the CO₂ emissions of their cargo delivery.

Through this programme, we offset the carbon emissions of the voyage with high-grade carbon credits. Upon completing the voyage, we issue customers a certificate of retirement as evidence that the corresponding number of carbon credits have been retired to offset the voyage emissions.
