Sustainable Procurement Guidelines
Understanding the sources of waste within our operations is an important step towards making informed and effective improvements.
To support this, we conducted a fleetwide plastic waste assessment, combining waste data collected from our vessels with feedback from crew across a broad range of roles, age groups and nationalities. This provided valuable insights into the main sources of plastic waste generated onboard and helped identify opportunities for reduction.
The findings informed a structured programme of supplier engagement focused on reducing unnecessary plastic consumption and encouraging more sustainable alternatives. Working collaboratively with key suppliers across our catering and logistics supply chains, we developed Berge Bulk’s Sustainable Procurement Guidelines, which provide a framework for integrating sustainability considerations into purchasing decisions and supplier partnerships.
By combining operational data, crew feedback and supplier collaboration, we aim to reduce waste at source and support more sustainable practices throughout our value chains.
